SCORE 2022 Season Kicks Off With San Felipe 250

Racing is headed back south of the border for the start of the 2022 SCORE International season with the San Felipe 250 taking place this week.

Racing is headed back south of the border for the start of the 2022 SCORE International season with the San Felipe 250 taking place from March 30 to April 3. With the top four finishers from last year and nine of the top 11 along with the reigning season point champion, teams poised, prepped, and revved to roar through the magnificent Mexican desert next week.

The colorfully challenging 277.00-mile race course will start and finish and pre-race contingency will be held for the first time since 2019 on El Malecon in the SCORE start/finish line compound alongside the picturesque Sea of Cortez for this popular ‘Spring Break’ desert race. On the eve of race week, 252 entries to date represent 28 U.S. States, one U.S. Territory, and eight countries.

In addition to the USA, U.S. Territory Puerto Rico, host country Mexico, entries so far have also come from Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, England, France, and Peru. San Felipe is 125 miles south of the U.S. Border at Calexico, California on the eastern side of the Baja peninsula along the azure waters of the Sea of Cortez.

“SCORE sincerely appreciates all of the dedicated effort by all concerned entities to ensure that this return to El Malecon will be conducted within BioSecurity guidelines while affording our amazing SCORE fans the opportunity to have closer viewing access to contingency and the start/finish line area of the race since before the global health pandemic,” commented Juan Tintos Funcke, SCORE General Manager. “This will be our first time back downtown since 2019 and all racers, crews, media, and staff inside of the SCORE compound our being strongly advised to wear their masks for reasons of health safety.”

The race includes 42 entries in the marquee SCORE Trophy Truck division (Including seven SCORE TT Legend vehicles for SCORE Trophy-Truck drivers over 50 years old), the marquee racing division for high-tech, 1000-horsepower unlimited custom trucks. Besides SCORE Trophy Truck, the other Pro classes with double-figure entries and their totals are Trophy Truck Spec with a SCORE-record 37 entries, Pro UTV FI with 26 entries, Class 1 (10) and Class 10 (19).

Live streaming for Friday’s race can be found on SCORE’s website and YouTube channel.
