Due to the afternoon heat not having enough entrees for its race, MORE decided to run every class simultaneously on the 48.5-mile course. The course featured some King of the Hammers course, sand dunes, and plenty of whoops.
Succeeding In The Desert
With the combined race, MORE gave teams a later start in hopes of wind coming in and helping keep the dust down. The green flag dropped at 10 am. For Clinical Racing, they would have to complete four laps on the fast but technical course.
“We are excited to be back out in the desert,” Clinical Racing’s driver Steven Olsewski explained. “The last race gave the entire team a boost of confidence, and we are all ready to succeed in the desert.”
Since the first race season, Clinical Racing has had its highs and lows, but they have learned from their mistakes and improved race after race. Anything can happen in the desert and this course would test just how well the vehicle was prepped.
Clinical Racing’s no. 2013 truck took the rear start and had nine entrees taking off in front of them. The course was very fast and the team knew that from prerunning. The technical sections would set the teams apart and the course started to knock teams out from the start.
On the second lap the team stopped as they felt the steering loosening up, but from then on out cruise control was on. Clinical Racing did not stop the rest of the race and their lap times showed that.
“The fast course laid out by MORE let us unleash our truck’s potential,” Clinical Racing’s co-driver Tyler Francis said. “We found a few more things to improve on, and with a full desert race finish under our belts, it’s a podium or nothing from here on out.”
Overall the day went great for the Clinical Racing team and they ended up finishing fourth in their class. It was a big accomplishment for the team as it was the first desert race they had completed in their first year of racing.
“We couldn’t have done it with out the help of everyone on team,” Olsewski explained. “From everyone in the pits to our sponsors it has truly been a team effort!”
