There has been some shake-up in the leadership of the Best In The Desert series and It puts the Folks brothers overseeing every aspect of the series. On May 5, 2022, Best In The Desert’s race operations manager, Jeff Phillips, made a decision to pursue other endeavors outside of Best In The Desert.

“While Jeff and the entire Phillips family will be missed by our staff, we understand that life often brings opportunities to do other things,” Best In The Desert said in a statement. “We understand this is the case, and we all wish Jeff and his family nothing but the best.”

Based on Jeff’s departure, brothers Bryan Folks and Daryl Folks will be handling not only day-to-day operations but also serving as Co-Race Directors with skills learned from the founder – and their father, Casey Folks. It’s an exciting time to be planning for Vegas to Reno, now named after the event Casey himself created over 20 years ago.

They say change is good – and the Folks’ brothers are looking ahead to even more positive Best In The Desert operational improvements as they look to the balance of 2022 and into the 2023 season.

“Over five years ago we lost our father and leader Casey Folks,” Bryan Folks commented. “We never thought moving Best In The Desert forward without him would be easy, but we have been able to achieve some significant milestones.”

“We persevered through the Covid struggle, accepted and are over-achieving new competition, are making plans to tackle the now-pressing inflationary measures, and the ever-present challenges of managing multiple race events,” Bryan continued. “I am happy to report all Vegas to Reno permits are in place, as well as planning and management are well-organized and ongoing.”

In addition to all permits in place for Vegas to Reno, all permits for the remainder of 2022 and into 2023 have been secured. Thus, the remaining races on the 2022 calendar will move forward as planned. Further details on our dramatic Vegas to Reno plans will be forthcoming, but Best In The Desert is getting ready for some announcements that are supposed to be unbelievable.
